Hollywood Icons Come to Phoenix

On Sept. 28, The Phoenix Symphony will present an evening of music from the movies with the help of maestro John Williams and director Steven Spielberg. Both Hollywood stars are donating their services for the one-night-only performance, which will benefit the Symphony’s Education and Community Outreach programs.

The Phoenix Symphony performance will include some of Williams' scores from Star Wars.

Williams and The Phoenix Symphony will begin the evening with selections from some of his most iconic scores, including the Star Wars saga and the first three Harry Potter films. Spielberg will join Williams to host the second half of the performance, presenting selections from their 40-year collaboration, including Jaws, E.T. Indiana Jones, Schindler’s List, Saving Private Ryan, War Horse and Lincoln. Selected film clips will be projected on a giant screen above the orchestra while scores play, blending the artistic magic of music and cinema.

Williams is a five-time Academy Award, four-time Golden Globe Award and 21-time Grammy Award winner. In total, he has 48 Academy Award nominations, making him the second most-nominated person after Walt Disney.

Spielberg is the top-grossing director in the film industry. Among his myriad honors, he is a three-time Academy Award winner and a two-time Directors Guild of America winner. Williams has composed the scores for 26 of the 27 feature films Spielberg has directed.

“John Williams and Steven Spielberg are two of the greatest American icons of our generation and tremendously important to the film industry. Their music and films are iconic and recognized the world over. This is a very special night and those lucky enough to attend will never forget the magic created on stage,” says Jim Ward, president and CEO of The Phoenix Symphony.
