Desert Foundation Auxiliary Welcomes 26 Debutantes
For the first time in its 55-year history, the Desert Foundation Auxiliary held its annual Mother Daughter Tea in cyberspace. Normally held in a member’s home, the traditional tea was brought to members, the 26 new Desert Debutantes and their mothers via Zoom.
During the meeting, Colleen Katz, 2020 president of DFA, welcomed the Debutantes and their mothers. The Tea is the first event of DFA’s season and serves to introduce the Debutantes to each other, along with their mothers, DFA members and the community. The history of DFA, which was founded in 1965, was presented along with the many traditions the organization still adheres to today.
Each of the 26 Debutantes were presented immediately prior to the meeting with a personalized basket filled with gift items along with a long-stemmed white rose with the DFA traditional turquoise ribbon to be presented to each of the mothers. Kelly Welty chaired the virtual occasion.
Jill Hegardt will chair the 2020 Desert Ball with Jenny Ellis as her co-chair. The Desert Ball is scheduled for Dec. 22 at The Phoenician. Proceeds will benefit Saving Amy.
