Arizona Foundation for Women Hosts Virtual Event

Annual awards luncheon becomes a successful evening fundraiser

Arizona Foundation for Women’s (AFW) annual fundraiser was originally scheduled for March 16, 2020. The organization expected more than 750 to attend the event, which celebrated AFW’s 25th anniversary. After the luncheon was postponed, the Foundation decided to move forward with a virtual awards event on June 11, 2020.

More than 600 people registered to view the virtual event, which was live at 5:15 p.m. Gretchen Carlson received the Sandra Day O’Connor Lifetime Achievement Award, Christi Paul received the Voice of Women Award, and Barbara Strachan received the Marilyn R. Seymann Award. Each was able to accept the award virtually. In recognition of the 25th anniversary, City of Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego honored AFW founder Marilyn Seymann with a proclamation.

An online raffle featured 30-plus packages, raising more than $19,000. In all, the event grossed $345,000. Darlene Keller-Price and Lisa Molina co-chaired the event. Carey Peña served as emcee, and Letitia Frye was the event auctioneer.
