Anita Lang Wins ‘Best of Show’

Anita Lang of Scottsdale-based IMI Design received her 100th ASID Design Excellence Award as well as “Best of Show” at the Aug.22 ASID Design Excellence Awards gala. The award ceremony for the Arizona North chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers was a virtual event that replaced the annual in-person gala.

Submissions for the Design Excellence awards include images and written narrative for each category. Judging criteria includes presentation of design intent, design execution and use of materials and color.

This is Lang’s fifth Best of Show award. Prior to this year’s event, she had received 99 design awards from ASID over a decades-long design career in Arizona. To date, she has won a total of 107. Her firm, IMI Design, focuses on luxury design projects with an emphasis on sustainability and integrity, working across the country and abroad.

“I believe that beauty has a profound impact on the human spirit, so as I design a project, whether it is residential or hospitality, it is with this intention of elevating the day-to-day experiences of those I serve,” Lang says.

Her design philosophy includes consideration of vernacular, of architectural appropriateness and a depth of design principles from proportion and scale to truthful materiality. Lang also owns Design 528, a bespoke furnishings line that has made several appearances in her award-winning spaces and has also been recognized by ASID in the element, furniture and fixture categories.

The Arizona North chapter of ASID focuses on professional growth and promotes research and knowledge management in the industry, requiring members to adhere to a strict code of conduct and professionalism. The national organization also works at the state and federal levels of government to represent the interests of the interior design industry.
