Opening Night: ‘Defining Moments: 50 Years of Fashion at Phoenix Art Museum’

Fashion exhibition features work of iconic designers alongside historical works.

With special guests Bob Mackie, Ruben and Isabel Toledo, Zandra Rhodes and Tatiana Sorokko on hand at the April 2 opening, Phoenix Art Museum kicked off Defining Moments: 50 Years of Fashion at Phoenix Art Museum in style.

The exhibition features designers including Alexander McQueen, Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy and Chanel, alongside historical works such as leather gloves with metal lace and silk embellishments dating from 1650. In all, more than 50 works from several eras are part of the exhibition. In addition, New York artist Ruben Toledo was commissioned to create large-scale illustrations to commemorate the golden anniversary for Phoenix Art Museum’s Fashion Design Collection and volunteer support organization Arizona Costume Institute.

The ticketed debut was presented by Max Mara and included food, dancing to the music of Jo Watson and the Birdman, and gift bags courtesy of Max Mara.
