Boys & Girls Clubs honor Robert Sarver and Phoenix Suns

Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley – Metro Phoenix honored Robert Sarver and the Phoenix Suns with the Heart of a Champion Award at the annual Today’s Kids, Tomorrow’s Stars gala. The event was held Feb. 22 at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa and recognized 12 outstanding Club teens as “Youth of the Year,” each representing a separate Club. The young people have overcome incredible obstacles and shared their inspirational stories during the evening. Samia Ruiz, a senior at Cesar Chavez High School, was announced as 2020 Youth of the Year.

In addition, the 750 guests enjoyed a large silent auction and an animated live auction. More than $2 million was raised, with proceeds exclusively benefiting local Club programs.

The dinner program was created by Michael Barnard, producing artistic director of The Phoenix Theatre Company. National television personality Jesse LeBeau served as emcee for the evening.
