Galaxy Gala Features ‘Planet Shark’ at Arizona Science Center

Arizona Science Center’s Galaxy Gala transported guests into the watery world of sharks on Feb. 4. During the social hour, the 400-plus attendees experienced the center’s newest exhibition, Planet Shark: Predator or Prey, as they sipped “Rising Tide” cocktails and enjoyed “Swell” hors d’oeuvres.

From the first course to the last, dinner, prepared by M Catering, featured a creative, sea-inspired menu: Seaweed salad, prawns and swordfish were highlights. For the 2016 Galaxy Gala, Chef Michael DeMaria won “Best Event Catering – Under $50,000,” awarded by the International Live Events Association. He outdid himself again this year.

Local DJ Kim E Fresh entertained during the after-party, which was presented by PetSmart. If guests needed still more nourishment, the feast continued treats from The Maine Lobster Lady food truck and desserts prepared by local restaurants, including Tarbell’s and Vincent’s.

The McRae family, including Betty McRae and Beth and Bill Dougherty, chaired the gala, which raised $650,000 to benefit the Arizona Science Center’s STEM programs. Ellie and Michael Ziegler were the presenting sponsors.

Planet Shark: Predator or Prey opened Feb. 5 and continues through May 29. For information or ticketsCLICK HERE.
