Arizona Women’s Board hosts 35th annual event

In 1980, Erma Bombeck invited fellow authors to join her for the country’s first Authors Luncheon to raise awareness and funds for Arizona kidney patients. On Nov. 8, 2014, the Arizona Women’s Board hosted the 35th Annual Authors Luncheon. More than 950 guests filled the Arizona Biltmore’s Frank Lloyd Wright Ballroom to listen to this year’s panel of outstanding authors. Prior to – and after – the luncheon, guests had an opportunity to buy books and have them signed by their respective writers.

The 2014 panel of authors included Pulitzer Prize winner Jane Smiley, Some Luck; Jeffrey Kluger, The Narcissist Next Door; Ruth Reichi, Delicious; Valerie Plame, Burned; and Aarti Sequeira, Aarti Paarti, An American Kitchen with an Indian Soul. Adriana Trigiani, author of The Supreme Macaroni Company, was the master of ceremonies.

The event raised more than $450,000 to support kidney health. Amy Louis chaired the luncheon, and Carrie Hulburd is the president of the Arizona Women's Board.
