The evening before the Nov. 3 Authors Luncheon set the tone for the successful luncheon that followed the next day. Hosted by Penny and Larry Gunning in their Paradise Valley home, the Friday night dinner welcomed about 110 people, including the authors, patrons and Arizona Women’s Board members.

On Saturday, around 960 guests attended the sold-out luncheon at the Arizona Biltmore, hosted by the 40 Arizona Women’s Board members. The event netted more than $500,000 for this year’s grant recipients – the National Kidney Foundation of Arizona, TGen and Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

This year, the authors selected to appear were Susan Fales-Hill, Susan Isaacs, Brad Thor, Jeffrey Toobin and Dr. Andrew Weil. In a nod to the popularity of e-readers, both hard copies and digital download cards were available for sale.

The luncheon was chaired by Chris Gustafson, and Sean McLaughlin, CBS Channel 5 newsman, was the emcee. Leah Hoffman leads the Women's Board as president.
