Assistance in Healthcare Super Ball Scores Big for Cancer Patients

Super Ball, Assistance In Healthcare’s annual sports gala, tapped into the team spirit of professional sports and sports fans, who dressed in their favorite team colors, to benefit Valley cancer patients. The colorful party on Jan. 30 raised more than $255,000 for individuals’ non-medical expenses when the cost of prolonged medical care creates financial hardship.

More than 550 guests attended the gala at Chateau Luxe in Phoenix, enjoying premier wine and cheese samplings and a movable feast created by Chateau Luxe’s chef.

Dave Pratt, The Morning Mayor, emceed the event that celebrated honorary co-chairs Robyn Taylor, an Assistance In Healthcare recipient, and her radiation oncologist Dr. Marnee Spierer of Cancer Treatment Centers of America. After dinner, desserts and drinks were offered on the H.O.P.E. Team Patio.

Sandra and George McGann served as the Super Ball 2016 chairs. George is the vice president and managing director of operations and asset management for Pyramid Hotel Group, based in Boston, and Sandra is the owner and operator of McGann Property Management. Unfortunately, both know cancer far too well. After losing her grandmother, two aunts, a cousin and George’s brother-in-law to cancer and watching numerous close friends be diagnosed in their 30s, they are passionate about supporting others during their fight.

“We are truly honored to be a part of Assistance In Healthcare, where we help cancer patients with their non-medical needs while receiving cancer treatment,” Sandra McGann said. “As a board member of AIH, I get to hear stories directly from the people that we help. Because of the $250 grant received from AIH, they were able to pay their electric bill and buy groceries for their family. Money raised goes directly to the patient.”

Super Ball 2016 was presented by Cancer Treatment Centers of America and in partnership with the Arizona Cardinals. Sponsors included Okland Construction, Arizona Diamondbacks, Medical Diagnostic Imaging Group, Cancer Treatment Centers of America at Western Regional Medical Center’s Team of Physicians, National Bank of Arizona, West Valley National Bank, AZ’s Physician Bank, Carrie Martz, the James Grogan Family, APS and the Stephenson Foundation.
