McKenzie and Scott began their relationship as friends at TCU. During junior year, when they traveled with other friends to Phoenix for the Fiesta Bowl, they realized they could be much more than friends. As timing would have it, McKenzie was preparing for a semester abroad. They decided the next best thing to dating would be to correspond while she was away. She sent postcards of her travels, and he wrote letters from Fort Worth. When she returned, they made things official.

Five years later, Scott proposed to McKenzie. They used a postcard theme in their wedding, including postcards instead of a traditional guestbook. The centerpieces reiterated the theme, incorporating postcards dating back to the early 1900s from the mother of the bride’s side of the family.
