SMoCA Welcomes Spring Season With ‘The Kindness Of Strangers’

Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) welcomes its spring season with two new exhibitions and a full schedule of related programs and events. The first exhibition, The Kindness of Strangers: Recent Acquisitions and Conservation Projects, sponsored by Security Title Agency, will run from Jan. 21 through April 23, 2017.

SMoCA holds in trust for the people of Scottsdale a collection of 1,834 artworks by 640 artists with a focus on contemporary art, architecture and design. The museum’s collection is a tribute to the generosity of national and local collectors, artists and supporters. In The Kindness of Strangers, SMoCA highlights exciting recent acquisitions and demonstrates how a coherent collection that speaks to the practices and ideas of our time is built. The exhibition also displays the museum’s intriguing recent conservation projects as it continues the important work of understanding, documenting and preserving all of the art in its care.

Visitors will discover juxtapositions from the wide range of media SMoCA amasses as it constructs a compelling collection of art for future generations of Arizonans to enjoy, discover and build upon. The exhibition will include works by artists including Richard Tuttle, Lyle Ashton Harris, Faith Ringgold, Paul Davies, Kelly Richardson, Brad Kahlhamer and more.
