Phoenix Art Museum Opens ‘Past/Future/Present’

Donors and supporters of Phoenix Art Museum joined exhibition co-curators Vanessa Davidson, Ph.D., the Shawn and Joe Lampe Curator of Latin American Arts, and Dr. Cauê Alves, curator at the Museu Brasileiro da Escultura e Ecologia de São Paulo, in celebrating the opening of Past/Future/Present: Contemporary Brazilian Art from the Museum of Modern Art, São Paulo, on Aug. 31.

Guests enjoyed a preview of the exhibition and Brazilian-inspired hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and live bossa nova music. Special guest Felipe Chaimovich, chief curator of the Museum of Modern Art, São Paulo, spoke on the landmark collaboration between the two institutions.

Past/Future/Present showcases 70 artworks integral to the development of contemporary art in Brazil between 1990 and 2010 by 59 artists who are recognized as the pioneers of their generation. Rarely exhibited together outside of the country, and on view together in the U.S. for the first time, these works embody Brazilian artistic experimentation. The exhibition will be on view at Phoenix Art Museum until Dec. 31.
