Celebrate Youth at Blue Door Ball

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale hosted Celebrate Youth at Blue Door Ball on Feb. 23 at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa. The gala included silent and live auctions, raffles and dinner, but the main focus of the evening was on the eight teen BGCS Youth of the Year finalists. Each presented his or her personal story exemplifying the transformative effect the clubs have on the lives of young people. More than 700 were in attendance to see Marena S., 17, named 2018 Youth of the Year. Marena represented the Thunderbird Branch.

As part of the honor of being Youth of the Year, each finalist was provided a scholarship by Voya Financial. Renee and Bob Parsons surprised all of the finalists with additional scholarships from The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation.

On March 26, Marena will represent Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale at the state competition. The Arizona State Youth of the Year will go on to the regional competition, with the potential to compete nationally.

Janet Caldarelli and Marianne Guenther co-chaired the evening.
