Summer Concert Series Showcases Arizona Talent

Back by popular demand, Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts’ Live & Local Fridays summer concert series will open July 8 with a musical tribute to The Beatles by Marmalade Skies. A total of eight Arizona groups spanning Americana, blues, flamenco, jazz, pop and more will be showcased on Friday nights during July and August in the cool comfort of the Center’s Virginia G. Piper Theater.

In addition to Marmalade Skies, the Live & Local Fridays lineup will feature performances by Muskellunge on July 15, Brian Chartrand & The Voce Project on July 22, Sistahs Too on July 29, The Sugar Thieves on Aug. 5, Robby Roberson Band on Aug. 12, Jay Allan & The Uncommon Good on Aug. 19, and Inspiracion Flamenca on Aug. 26.

 

2016 LIVE & LOCAL FRIDAYS SCHEDULE 

JULY 8 – Marmalade Skies
This 7-piece band pays tribute to the most influential rock act of the 1960s, The Beatles
.

JULY 15 – Muskellunge
This Flagstaff-based band performs contemporary acoustic Americana, tinged with bluegrass and laden with lyrics about the places and people of Arizona.



JULY 22 – Brian Chartrand & The Voce Project
Steely Dan meets James Taylor in this night of all-original songs by Phoenix local Brian Chartrand and his band of world-class musicians.



JULY 29 – Sistahs Too
Rochelle Raya’s and Lila Sherman’s newest blues project features sultry vocals, soulful harmonica and slide guitar.



AUGUST 5 – The Sugar Thieves
Moving between blues, country, gospel, rock and elements of jazz, The Sugar Thieves celebrate the traditions that make American music so brilliant.



AUGUST 12 – Robby Roberson Band
Influenced by music from John Lennon to Phillip Glass, Robby Roberson’s songwriting and vocals have an urban acoustic flavor.



AUGUST 19 – Jay Allan & The Uncommon Good
Jay Allan’s funky-folk, blues rock combines heartfelt and memorable lyrics with genre-bending styles and melodies.



AUGUST 26 – Inspiracion Flamenca
Dancer Julia Chacon provides an authentic, powerful flamenco experience with beautiful costumes, fiery footwork, intricate guitar and soul-stirring vocals.
